Configurator or Editor – which tool opens when

When you create a new scene, HEGIAS automatically opens the right tool depending on your chosen starting point: the Configurator or the Editor. What matters is how your scene's architecture is created.

Your starting point decides

When creating a new scene, you choose how you want to begin. This choice determines which tool opens and which features are available to you.

Draw a plan yourself or scan a room: full Configurator

If you draw your floor plan yourself with the 2D floor planner or scan a room with the RoomScanner, the full Configurator is available to you. You can switch between two modes at any time, as often as you like:

  • Modify Rooms – edit the floor plan: walls, rooms, doors and windows
  • Modify Interior – furnish the space: furniture, objects, materials and light sources

Because HEGIAS creates the architecture itself in this case, the floor plan remains fully editable – even after you have already furnished the space.

Upload a 3D model as architecture: Editor only

If you upload an existing 3D or BIM model as architecture (IFC, FBX, GLB/GLTF, USD or OBJ), the Editor opens. You furnish the space as usual – with the library, materials, objects and light sources – but the floor plan itself cannot be changed via the Room mode.

The reason: with an uploaded 3D model, you bring your own architectural geometry. This is not generated parametrically within HEGIAS and therefore cannot be adjusted via the floor plan mode.

In short

  • Draw a plan yourself (2D floor planner) → full Configurator, switch between Modify Rooms and Modify Interior
  • Scan a room (RoomScanner) → full Configurator
  • Upload a 3D model (IFC, FBX, GLB/GLTF, USD, OBJ) → Editor only
